Benefits of Volunteering

If you are looking for ways to make new friends, improve your overall health both mentally and physically and learn new skills, volunteering may be the way.  It can change your life as well as the lives of others for the better.  There are so many benefits gained from volunteering.

When we volunteer the reward is a real sense of accomplishment and most feel fantastic after making a positive impact on others, whether the impact is for humans, animals or the planet. It gives us an opportunity to work on something we are passionate about, to help those less fortunate than ourselves.  Our mental and physical health improves as a result of the positive social interaction. Helping others simply makes us feel good.

I have always enjoyed volunteering and have made many wonderful friends through service.  I have volunteered in the insurance industry, my community, at animal shelters and in various associations. I’ve gained knowledge every time, as well as skills I would not otherwise have had the opportunity to learn.

When you are pursuing a big dream, there will always be new things you will need to learn, skills you will need to acquire. Volunteering is a great way to gain that knowledge, and to meet others who may make great mentors for you. It gives you an opportunity to learn from the mistakes others have made, without making them yourself.  Volunteering can provide an opportunity to try out a new career without making it a long-term commitment.

Volunteering increases self-confidence, can boost self-esteem, provide a sense of purpose and make you feel great overall. Most of all, volunteering provides self-satisfaction and is fulfilling and just plain fun.  If you have not already, give it a try.
