If you sometimes feel overwhelmed with everything on your plate and wonder how you will move forward with goals, you are not alone. In this fast-paced world it is easy to just do what we need to do at the moment, and get through another day. One big way we can create a more peaceful environment is to organize our personal and work life.
Being organized has so many benefits, including improved time management, saving money (time again), being more productive and feeling less stressed and more in control. Another big benefit is gaining more time to do the things we love to do.
You have probably heard the saying “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail”. While we don’t do that intentionally that it is what happens when we don’t have a plan or roadmap to create the life we desire. Without a plan, life is lived reactively, rather than proactively. Living in a reactive state is stressful and a time waster. Keep in mind that your outer world really does reflect your inner world.
Here are some tips to help you get organized, and create a more simplified life.
- Determine and commit to creating the type of life you want to live.
- Set goals, you knew this would be a biggie. Know what you want to accomplish daily.
- Use a planner and detailed calendar. You can time tasks, they really will get completed faster.
- Establish new habits, healthy ones that create a more organized and less stressful day.
- Learn to say NO. You cannot be everything to everybody. Take some me time regularly.
Establishing new habits, which can include saying NO when needed, isn’t always easy. Many of us know people who are always late, who are very stressed when they get where they are going. A habit change of always leaving 15 minutes earlier than you think you need to would do wonders to solve this problem. And take away so much stress. That is just one example, and many of us have numerous habits we should change in order to live more organized lives. For me, it’s putting papers away or storing them online more efficiently so I don’t waste time searching. One of my goals for this year is to change this habit, slow down and focus on where and how I store things. What habit might you change or create to better organize your life?
